As you know it’s MBA Newsletter time again…  Do you have a friend or relative you would like to write about who has passed away this year?  It’s meaningful to all of us when you share some of that history on the “In Memory” page, at the end of the newsletter.   Send your thoughts to me at , or I’m happy to send an example from another year to show the sorts of Bay memories folks have been sharing.  If I’ve already talked with you about this, do send the memories in writing now if you can.

Many thanks,  Judy Young

HI Judy,

Thanks for this opportunity to let others in the Bay know of mother's passing.

Susan Fitts Salaniuk

Mary Switzer Fitts loved the Bay. She never tired asking us about our plans for each summer, hoping that we would be able to stay for several weeks. She died peacefully at her home in Chelsea, Michigan on April 10, 2018, three months after a jubilant 100th birthday celebration on January 6 that was filled with friends and family from around the country and globe. Her life was filled to the brim with family, friends, world travels, good food, wine, yoga, reading and long swims at McGregor Bay along with a deep appreciation for its beauty.

She was married in 1942 to Paul Fitts who was only able to share three summers with her in the Bay before his untimely death in 1965, but she continued making the trip each year until she was in her late 90’s. The first year they arrived on the island with two teenagers and two children in grade school she took great pride in learning how to manage without electricity: to heat up the large wood burning stove for everything, even to heat water for coffee. She never succumbed to the lure of electricity even though she did install a propane oven.

Susan, Jean and Beth continue to enjoy the island and know our mother’s spirit will always be with us when we are there, even as our brother John’s and father’s are.

To protect and enhance the environment of McGregor Bay, to encourage and promote the respectful enjoyment of its unique natural setting, and to represent the interests of all of its residents and other stakeholders.
